-Residential Services
ASC owns and/or manages homes located in various Huntington neighborhoods.
Residents with developmental disabilities (DD) are taught basic living
skills and are involved in community activities with the assistance of
trained staff. The homes are unrecognizable from any other in the community.
The residents are involved in many facets of neighborhood living. Those
who are of school age attend public school. Others who have graduated
are taught skills for employment. Most have jobs, either paid or volunteer.
-Service Coordination
ASC provides service coordination (SC) for individuals with DD who reside
in Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln and Mason counties. Service Coordination establishes
a potentially life-long process for accessing a range of services, instructions,
and assistance. The SC assists an individual with DD in making meaningful
choices and works to ensure quality, accessibility, accountability, and
continuity of support services.
-Personal Care Nursing
Many clients benefit from the Personal Care Nursing program at ASC. Qualified
nurses make home visits to these clients to assess their medical needs.
A nursing plan is created to include supervision of medications and personal
care attendants. Periodic visits to the home are made to evaluate the
client's progress. ASC also offers personal care services to clients in
ASC's residential programs.
-Day Services
ASC operates the Guyan Day Program in Lincoln County for those who no
longer attend public school. These services include job training and basic
living skills training.
-Independent Living
Trained ASC staff are available to assist clients in learning skills necessary
for functioning independently in the community--such as assisting a client
in learning to ride the bus to a job or in buying groceries.
-Supported Employment
ASC strives to provide the opportunity for paid employment. The Supported
Employment program offers job training and work placement. When necessary,
a job coach may be available on-site to assist the client in the successful
performance of duties. Also, volunteer work can be used as a way to teach
skills and introduce an individual to a workplace environment.
-Community Programs
ASC provides comprehensive services for those individuals with DD who
reside in their family homes. Using Title XIX of the Medicaid Waiver Program,
ASC provides a variety of home and community supports, as well as training
in areas such as residential skills, job opportunities, supported employment,
respite, and transportation. Programs are designed to fit each individual's
needs and interests. Input from the family members is considered essential
in ensuring that services are carried out effectively.
-Family Support
The Family Support Program allocates funds for services and/or equipment
that are not funded by Medicaid or other insurance companies. These funds
are to assist individuals and their family for such things as clothing,
medical care, wheelchair ramps or respite--based upon the family's need.
