ASC operates several homes
including one of the first in the nation for preadolescent children. Residents
with developmental disabilities are taught basic living skills and are
integrated into community settings. School age residents go to public
schools. Residential services also include supervised apartments with
24 hour staffing in the building.
Autism Services Center is one of the few agencies in the United States
with small homes tailored to serve people with autism. Using a completely
community-integrated model, we have placed our homes in regular neighborhoods
with typically three residents per house.
ASC operates nine group
homes, providing 30 clients with twenty-four hour residential care.
The usual staff:client ratio is 1:1, but even with only three residents
in a house there may be eight or nine people in the home at any one time
when you include staff, managers, or other visitors such as nurses, case
managers or families. Out of the nine homes, five homes are specifically
for individuals with autism. The experience we have had in operating these
homes has produced knowledge in choosing the location and designing the
layout to ensure success and comfort.
